A Corner Desk in Disguise

The problem with having to have a computer desk in your home is that in general they are not attractive to look at. The computer hardware, screen and printer plus the piles of books and papers that tend to collect on a desk are an untidy eyesore, particularly if your "office" is just a corner in your living or dining room. This problem can be solved by a particular type of computer corner desk.

Desks And Workstations

The type of desk in this case does not look outwardly like a desk at all - it is a computer armoire. When open these armoires provide all the work space and storage space that you need, but when closed you would have no idea of what lies behind the doors and they just appear to be a beautiful piece of furniture. These can be made to fit into a corner or just stand against a wall in any room of the house.

Desks And Workstations

Because of their size and function, computer armoires do tend to be more expensive than a typical computer corner desk. Plus it is also more usual to have an armoire made of solid wood or veneered rather than just fiberboard so that it is not only functional but also attractive. However, this is an item of furniture that can be used for many years so the extra investment is worth it. Workstation armoires start in price from around 0 all the way up to several thousand dollars for one made in solid hardwood that looks like a genuine antique armoire.

A typical computer armoire has one or two sets of double doors. The lower half has space for a CPU, a printer and usually shelves or slots for storage of papers. This is topped by a pull out shelf designed to take a keyboard. The top half has space to accommodate a computer monitor and also more shelves or storage space. Some furniture manufacturers have even made the lost space on the interior of the doors useful by incorporating white boards or bulletin boards.

Computer armoires are often constructed of oak, pine, cherry or with an antique black or pure white wood finish so that they can fit into virtually any room of your home. Some feature built-in lighting to make working even in a dark corner simple. Others have an open bookshelf at the top to make the armoire appear even more like a regular piece of furniture instead of a corner desk in disguise.
